Ocean Adventures on The Albion River

So this year instead of our Tahoe Bash, Headwaters Adventure Company in Redding and Headwaters Kayak in Lodi are teaming up to bring you a Coastal Adventure on the beautiful coast of Mendocino. This trip will provide adventures for all paddlers from the beginner to the advanced paddler!  There are going to be mini clinics and after the clinics there will be group paddles to explore the beautiful coastline and river.  The group paddles are open to anyone and there is no cost for these. The conditions range from flat water to the fun swells of the ocean. You pick what your comfort level is!

Our event will be held at the Albion River.  A  group of 20 sites has been held for us at the Albion River Campground and Marina.  The RV sites are $40.00 per night for full hookups and $35.00 a night for partial hookups. Tent camping is $35.00 per night. If tent camping is not your thing you can rent one of their RV's for $125.00 per night. Contact Darrell at (707) 937-0606 or online at http://www.albionrivercampground.com/  If tent camping is not for you and you don’t have an RV you can rent an RV from Coast Vacation Trailers who will deliver the trailer to your campsite at Albion. You can contact them at (707) 962-9292 or http://www.albionrivercampground.com/

ALBION RIVER CAMPGROUND AND
The Albion River Campground and Marina is located South of Mendocino, California on the Albion Cove where the Albion River meets the Pacific Ocean, the campground is one of only two sites on the Mendocino Coast that provides both sheltered river moorage and ocean access.  The campground is an annual destination for abalone dive clubs, avid cod and salmon fishing groups, crab lovers, and kayak & canoe enthusiasts.

During this weekend event both shops and Sterling Kayaks will have demo kayaks available to test drive.  Sterling will have their awesome fleet available! Sterling and his team will answer all of your questions that you may have.  Sterling's fleet of kayaks are wonderful in flat water and moving water, but they excel in the ocean!

Jackson and Stealth Kayaks will also be available to demo. Sean Morley will be available to answer all of your questions about the Jackson Kayaks. The Karma RG is an awesome kayak made for the ocean!

There will also be four mini clinics taught by Dan Arbuckle, Sean Morley, Terri Arbuckle and Tiffney Ottoboni.  After each clinic there will be a group paddle to explore the area and show off your new or improved skills!

Sean Morley is an ACA level 5 Advanced Open Water Kayak Instructor and a Level 3 Surf Kayak Instructor.  He has spent a lot of time teaching Rock Gardening and Surfing classes on the Mendocino coast.

Dan Arbuckle owns Headwaters Kayak in Lodi and has over 20 years experience in the sport of kayaking. I can tell you from personal experience he is a phenomenal kayaker and really takes the time to listen to his students.  After taking a class with Dan you will have so much confidence in you paddling ability.

Terri Arbuckle, owner of Headwaters and Tiffney Ottoboni are ACA certified level II instructors. They will be teaching Level II Introduction to Kayaking and Rescue and Re Entry on Saturday September 6th from 9 am to 1pm This class is perfect for the beginner paddler to learn basic stroke techniques and how to self rescue and perform assisted rescues safely.  This is a wonderful way to build confidence for the rest of the weekend! Required equipment are PFD and paddle float. Please dress for immersion.

The three clinics that Dan and Sean will instruct are the following:

Introduction to Rock Gardening and Sea Caves: This course will introduce the beginner paddler to maneuvering through rocks, slots, pour overs also known as features and sea caves!  Sean and Dan will show the paddler how to play safely among the features and avoid areas that are not safe.  For this clinic you will need to dress for immersion, wear a helmet and PFD.  This clinic is scheduled for Saturday September 6th from 9am to 1pm.

The Strokes and Boat Control Clinic

The Strokes and Boat Control Clinic is a very good clinic for beginners to the advanced who need brushing up on their skills.  Sean and Dan will teach paddlers the proper stroke technique to improve efficiency and prevent injury.  In any kind of moving water it is important to learn how to control your boat.  Dan and Sean will instruct paddlers on how to control their kayak instead of the dynamic water controlling it.  The required equipment are PFD, helmet and dress for immersion
This clinic is scheduled for Friday September 5th from 2pm to 6pm.

Each clinic is four hours.  Each clinic costs $50.00 per person this is non refundable.  Payment for the clinics must be received no later than August 25, 2014 and payment needs to be made to either:

This is an awesome training- all about seamanship/womanship. Towing, strokes, and rescue skills for rough water paddling, surf zone skills, navigation, and teamwork.   Here is the link for the training and assessment  www.liquidfusionkayak.com The cost is $110 per day.

On Monday September 8th Jeff and Cate will be offering the assessment for those wanting to earn the 3* Sea Kayak Award.  Obtaining a BCU 3* Sea Kayak Award is recognized by Kayak companies worldwide. Having taken lessons from Jeff and Cate I can vouch that they are world class instructors. You will come away with so much knowledge!
