Michael Blaser was there putting people on the stand up paddle boards. Shasta Paddlers volunteered at the event and did everything from signing people in to provide safety for paddlers out on the water.
Then from May 12th through May 15th a group from Shasta Paddlers was able to kayak the Green River in Moab Utah. Canyon Voyages provided the guides and exquisite meals. Everyone had a wonderful time. The scenery was beautiful with the cacti in full bloom!
On May 17th, Rivers For Change and Headwaters Adventure Company held a community paddle from Posse Grounds to Anderson River Park as a precursor to the Cal 100. Shasta Paddlers and Just Kayak More provided safety boaters and Ginger and Don BBQ'd the most delicious hot dogs and hamburgers for a group of thirty hungry paddlers!
Also the weekend of May 17th was Gimme Shelter 8 at Shelter Cove. Our own Jeff Baker placed ninth out of 218 kayak anglers.
May 24th - 26th
The 2nd annual Cal 100 organized by the Rivers for Change crew is a 100 mile river race that begins at the Sundial Bridge in Redding and finishes near Chico. It is open all paddlers who paddle everything from surfskis, marathon canoes, sea kayaks, standup paddleboards, even prone paddleboards.
Again Shasta Paddlers, Headwaters Adventure Company and Just Kayak More provided volunteers as safety boaters, volunteers at the check points and finish. As a competitor it was very comforting to receive a comforting hug and lots of encouragement from them at every check point and finish! I am so proud to be a part of this community! There were four local paddlers that competed this year!
Tom Crackel and Jason Montelongo competed in the competitive class and came in 2nd and third in their division.
In the Adventure Class George Williams Sr. and myself competed in the Adventure class.
George Williams Sr. placed 4th place in his division and I placed third in my division.
Tom Crackel at the finish!
Jason Montelongo at the finish!
George Williams Sr. at the finish!
George Williams Sr. awarding me my medal at the Shasta Paddlers meeting!
I can't say enough about our paddling community! The support for each other is wonderful! Thanks to all who volunteered their time!
